Paragraph 5. Position or indication signs

• 28. Position or indication signs introduce or terminate certain regimes of traffic and also inform road-users about the location of built-up areas or other objects.
• 29. Position or indication signs are the following:
• 5.1. Motorway.
  
  The sign inform about the beginning of the road on which special requirements of the Rules establishing the order of road traffic on a motorway are in force
• 5.2. End of motorway.
  
  The sign inform about the ending of the road on which special requirements of the Rules establishing the order of road traffic on a motorway are in force
• 5.3. Road for motor vehicles.
  
  A road reserved only for traffic of motor vehicles, buses and motorcycles
• 5.4. End of road for motor vehicles.
  
• 5.5. One-way road.
  
  A road or a carriageway separated by structural means, on which the traffic of vehicles across all width is carried out in one direction
• 5.6. End of one-way road.
  
• 5.7.1, 5.7.2. Exit to one-way road.
  
  Exit to the road on which the traffic of vehicles is permitted only in the direction indicated on the sign
• 5.8.1. Directions of traffic on the lanes.
  
  The number of lanes on an intersection and permitted directions of traffic on each of them
• 5.8.2. Direction of traffic on the lane.
  
  Permitted direction (directions) of traffic on the lane.

  Signs 5.8.1, 5.8.2 may include information about road traffic restrictions on the intersection (contain images of prohibitory or mandatory signs). Signs 5.8.1, 5.8.2 permitting a left turn from the outer left lane also allow a U-turn from this lane. Configuration of arrows may be changed in accordance with configuration of a specific intersection.

  Signs 5.8.1, 5.8.2, installed before the intersection, cover all over the intersection, unless signs 5.8.1, 5.8.2 or 4.1.1–4.1.6 installed on the intersection give other instructions

• 5.8.3. Beginning of lane.
  
  Beginning of an additional lane on an ascent or a deceleration lane.

  If there is an image of the sign 4.4 or 4.7 on the sign installed before the additional lane, the driver of the vehicle that cannot continue the movement on the main lane taking into consideration requirements of these signs must switch to the additional lane

• 5.8.4. Beginning of lane.
  
  Beginning of a section of the middle lane of a tree-lane road reserved for traffic in this direction, or beginning of a deceleration lane for a left turn to or a U-turn
• 5.8.5. End of lane.
  
  Ending of an additional lane on an ascent or an acceleration lane
• 5.8.6. End of lane.
  
  Ending of a lane reserved for traffic in this direction
• 5.8.7, 5.8.8. Direction of traffic on the lanes.
  
  If sign 5.8.7 has the image of a prohibitory or mandatory sign, then indicated restrictions, conditions or regimes are introduced on the respective lane.

  Parts of signs 5.8.7, 5.8.8 indicating the number of lanes for oncoming traffic directions may be made as separate signs installed at a small distance from each other

• 5.9.1. Lane for route vehicles.
  
  Lane reserved only for traffic of route vehicles
• 5.9.2. End of lane for route vehicles.
  
• 5.10.1. Road with a lane for route vehicles.
  
  Road on which the traffic of route vehicles is carried out on a specially reserved lane in the direction opposite to common traffic of vehicles
• 5.10.2, 5.10.3. Exit to road with a lane for route vehicles.
  
• 5.10.4. End of road with a lane for route vehicles.
  
• 5.11.1. Place for U-turn.
  
• 5.11.2. Zone for U-turn.
  
  Beginning of a zone for U-turning of vehicles and its length
• 5.12.1. Bus and/or trolleybus stop point.
  
  This sign indicates the beginning of a boarding ground of the bus and/or trolleybus stop point. Outside built-up areas the sign may be installed on a pavilion on the side corresponding to arrival of route vehicles.

  The lower part of the sign may include the image of panel 7.2.1 with indication of the distance equal to the length of the boarding ground

• 5.12.2. Place of bus and/or trolleybus stopping.
  
  The sign may be installed at the end of the boarding ground of the bus and/or trolleybus stop point. A panel (panels) with information about the type of public transport (bus - alphabetic index “А”, trolleybus — “Т”) and the regime of its traffic (schedule) is placed below the sign
• 5.13.1. Tramway stop point.
  
  The sign indicates the beginning of the zone of tramway stop point. The lower part of the sign may include the image of panel 7.2.1 with indication of the distance equal to the length of the zone of tramway stop point
• 5.13.2. Place for tramway stopping.
  
  The sign may be installed at the end of the zone of tramway stop point. A panel with information about routes and regime (schedule) of tramway traffic is placed below the sign
• 5.14.1. Express-route stop point.
  
  The sign indicated the beginning of the boarding ground of the stop point of the vehicle that carries out regular express traffic.

  This stop point may be marked with two signs 5.14.1 installed at the beginning and the end of the boarding ground. In this instance the lower part of the first sign in the direction of traffic may include the image of panel 7.2.1 with indication of the length of the boarding ground, and also information about the number of vehicles that may simultaneously be at the stop point

• 5.14.2. Taxi parking.
  
  The sign indicates the area on the carriageway or a special ground reserved only for parking of taxis. The sign may indicate the number of taxis permitted remain on the parking.

  In built-up areas, the taxi parking zone may be marked with signs 5.14.2, one installed at the beginning of the zone with panel 7.2.1, the other — at the end of the parking zone

• 5.15. Parking.
  
  The sign indicates a special ground, zone on the carriageway or pavement reserved for parking of vehicles. Panels may be used together with sign 5.15 to clarify directions of traffic, distance to the special ground and permitted parking conditions
• 5.16.1, 5.16.2. Pedestrian crossing.
  
  The signs mark the zone for crossing of the carriageway by pedestrians. On pedestrian crossing of more than 10 meters wide, panel 7.2.1 or 7.2.2 indicating the width of the pedestrian crossing area may be installed with sign 5.16.2
• 5.17.1, 5.17.2. Underground pedestrian crossing.
  
• 5.17.3, 5.17.4. Overground pedestrian crossing.
  
• 5.18.1. Advisory speed.
  
  The validity zone of the sign spreads to sign 5.18.2 or sign 5.18.1 with another recommended speed or to the nearest marked intersection, and when sign 5.18.1 is applied with a danger warning sign is determined by the length of the dangerous section of the road
• 5.18.2. End of validity zone of the sign “Advisory speed”.
  
• 5.19.1–5.19.3. No through road.
  
  Road without throughway
• 5.20.1, 5.20.2. Advance direction sign.
  
  Directions of traffic to built-up areas or other objects.

  The signs bear symbols of motorway, airport, images of signs 5.29.1, 5.29.2, and also of other symbols and signs informing about the characteristics of the road traffic.

  The lower part of sign 5.20.1 indicates the distance from the place of its installation to the intersection or the beginning of a deceleration lane.

  Sign 5.20.1 is also used for indication of the scheme of the route of diversion of the sections of road on which one of prohibitory signs 3.4, 3.6, 3.11.1, 3.12.1, 3.13–3.15.1 is installed. In this case the sign must bear a scheme of the diversion route and the image of a respective prohibitory sign

• 5.20.3. Outline of traffic.
  
  The route of traffic on the intersection in case of prohibition of certain maneuvers, indication of permitted directions of traffic on a complicated intersection
• 5.21.1. Direction sign.
  
  Direction of traffic towards built-up areas or other objects.

  The sign may the distances to objected indicated on them, symbols of motorway, airport, images of signs 5.29.1, 5.29.2, and also of other symbols and signs informing about the characteristics of the road traffic

• 5.21.2. Directions sign.
  
  Directions of traffic towards built-up areas or other objects.

  The signs may the distances to objected indicated on them, symbols of motorway, airport, images of signs 5.29.1, 5.29.2, and also of other symbols and signs informing about the characteristics of the road traffic

• 5.22.1, 5.22.2. Beginning of built-up area.
  
  Beginning of a built-up area where the special requirements of the Rules establishing the order of traffic in built-up areas are effective
• 5.23.1, 5.23.2. End of built-up area.
  
  A point of road from which the special requirements of the Rules establishing the order of the traffic in the built-up areas lose their effect
• 5.24. Beginning of the boundary of built-up area.
  
  Beginning of the boundary of a built-up area during the traffic in which on this road the special requirement of the Rules establishing the order of traffic in built-up areas have no effect
• 5.25. End of the boundary of built-up area.
  
  End of the boundary of a built-up area marked with sign 5.24
• 5.26.1. Name of object.
  
  Name of an object not being a built-up area (river, lake, landmarks, etc.), and also the marking of boundaries of administrative-territorial and territorial units
• 5.26.2. Name of object.
  
  Name of an object in built-up area (name of the street, theatre, museum, etc.)
• 5.27. Distance marker.
  
  Distance to built-up areas or other objects (km)

• 5.42. Toll road.
  
  Sign inform the beginning of the road, which uses a system of electronic toll collection in the regime of free movement for multiband passage of vehicles.
• 5.43. End of toll road.
  
  Sign inform the end of the road, which uses a system of electronic toll collection in the regime of free movement for multiband passage of vehicles.
• 30. Green or blue background of signs 5.20.1–5.21.2 installed outside a built-up area (inserts in signs 5.20.1, 5.20.2, certain fields of sign 5.21.2) informs that the traffic towards this built-up area or another object will be carried out respectively on a motorway or another road. Green or blue background of signs 5.20.1–5.21.2 installed in a built-up area informs that after the exit from this built-up area the traffic towards the built-up area or another object, indicated on this sign, will be carried out respectively on a motorway or another road, white background — that the mentioned object is situated in this built-up area.
• 31. The background of signs 5.24–5.26.1, 5.27, 5.28 installed on a motorway is green.
