  • Chapter 14. Pedestrian crossings and stop points of route vehicles

    • 114. Pedestrian crossing is marked with road signs “Pedestrian crossing” and/or horizontal road marking 1.14.1-1.14.3. Additionally, pedestrian crossing may be equipped with other technical means of road traffic organization.

In absence of horizontal road marking 1.14.1-1.14.3, the width of a pedestrian crossing id determined by the distance between the road signs “Pedestrian crossing”, and in case the road signs are placed only at the outside edge of a pedestrian crossing relatively to the intersection center — by the distance between the installation alignment of the road signs and a imaginary line connecting the beginnings of the curves of borders of the carriageway adjacent to the pavement (sidewalk).

    • 115. Pedestrian crossing where the movement of pedestrians across the carriageway is regulated by an authorized official or traffic lights is called a regulated pedestrian crossing.

At a regulated pedestrian crossing, upon giving an authorizing signal by an authorized official or turning on of a authorizing signal of traffic lights, the driver must give way to pedestrians who have not finished crossing of the carriageway.

    • 116. When approaching an unregulated pedestrian crossing, the driver must slow down up to stopping of the vehicle in order to give way to pedestrians.
    • 117. If a vehicle has stopped (is standing) or slowed down the movement before a pedestrian crossing, drivers of other vehicles moving on adjacent lanes in the same direction must slow down and give way to pedestrians, if any.
    • 118. The driver is prohibited to enter a pedestrian crossing if a congestion that that will compel him to stop on the pedestrian crossing has occurred.
    • 119. Everywhere, including outside pedestrian crossings, the driver must give way to a pedestrian — a visually handicapped person giving a signal with a walking stick of white colour or with a stick with high visibility covering, including the one with retroreflective element (elements). The driver must be ready to slow down or to stop in order to avoid a possibility of running down such road-users, and also children and pedestrians with visible disabilities of locomotor apparatus.
    • 120. The driver must stop, giving way to pedestrians walking to a route vehicle on a stop-point or from such vehicle (on the door side), if boarding (alighting) of passengers is carried out from the carriageway or from a boarding area situated on it. It is allowed to start the movement only after a route vehicle has closed the doors and turns off hazard warning lights (right direction-indicator).
    • 121. It is prohibited to overtake a moving tramway with turned-on hazard warning lights (right direction-indicator), within the zone of the tramway stop point marked with road sign “Tramway stop point” and/or horizontal road marking 1.17.2.
    • 122. Approaching a standing vehicle with turned-on hazard warning lights and with identification mark “Transportation of children”, the driver must slow down, if necessary, to stop and give way to pedestrians.
